No, why would I?

No, I got a job in where I am required to shave.

shadefordays asked:
Hi, I'm a vocal student here in Florida and had questions about the composer-singer relationship/dynamic. I would LOVE to sing things composed by young American composers, but I'm not sure how to approach composers to have a piece made for me. What would you find to be the best to go about this? Also, explain the idea of having a work commissioned, if you don't mind? P.S. You live in the same town as my Great-Grandmother. I go to Lubbock every summer for my family reunion!! Thanks!!

The composer-performer relationship for me is usually a collaboration to some degree. I like to get performers perspective, but that can vary with other composers. The best way to approach a composers is to first be a friend, preferably compositional majors at your school. Im sure they are desperately looking for performers. If you are not friends with them, just approach them and ask if they have solo vocal music, if not offer your services to sing their music if they ever write anything for voice.

As far as commissions, that is a composer by composer base thing. I do things pretty standard with most other composers, but if can vary. You can go to my website to see how I do commissions at www.tylerjustinhughes.com

Good news I got a job, bad news I have to shave now. This is the first time my chin has seen sunlight in a very long time. At least I can keep my side burns and have the mustache option.

But lets take a moment to look back at my facial hair history this year. Cue sappy “Look back at people we lost music from the oscars.”

Designer Bear

One of many things that drives men to the bear community is the idea that one can be relaxed in not only their body, but in the clothes they wear. The bear community, in a way, is a place where one doesn’t have to worry about being up to date with the top fashions or the top designers. Bears don’t have to worry about whether or not their shoes match with their belt, nor do they have to worry about if they are seen in the same outfit twice at any function. But what if you enjoy wearing those things? Does it make one less of a bear if one takes a little more time putting an outfit together?

I know personally like to look nice and make a conscious effort to put together an outfit for the day. My taste in clothes tends to run a little more expensive than most of my bear friends. I have days where all I wear is a t-shirt and khaki shorts, but those days are growing farther and fewer. Unlike a lot of my bear friends, I wear my clothes in my home even if I am alone. But does taking care in the clothes you choose to wear an anti-bear trait? In a community that stresses the idea of “Come as you are,” does taking such care in appearance just harken back to the very reason the bear community broke off from the general gay community, or can you really come as you are, designer clothes and all?

Just something I have been pondering.
